Job Introduction

East Hertfordshire has a lot to offer. We are consistently rated among the best areas in the country to live, boasting excellent schools, an outstanding new theatre and cultural centre, a vast array of green spaces, beautiful waterways, unique market towns, and picturesque villages.

We also enjoy high levels of employment and a diverse local economy. Additionally, we benefit from being close to London and Cambridge, with good access to Stansted and Luton airports. We are located in the heart of the UK Innovation Zone – Britain’s fastest-growing region.

However, there are challenges. The largely rural nature of the district can leave some people feeling isolated, with limited access to technological improvements and public transport. Growth can be threatening to existing communities, and in an area where congestion and air quality are real concerns, this is unsurprising. Many people struggle to afford a home in an area with very high house prices. Our aim is to manage growth in a way that protects what our communities value most.

Like all councils, we face budgetary pressures, and the ongoing Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution agenda have introduced additional challenges and complexity into our day-to-day operations.

Yet with these challenges come significant opportunities – and at East Herts, we face them with ambition and determination. Over the years, we have forged strong partnerships and worked tirelessly – both as members and officers – to deliver high-quality services to our communities. We have successfully delivered major capital projects and are now collaborating with partners on key growth initiatives, including regeneration in Bishop’s Stortford town centre and the development of one of the largest garden towns in the country.

You’ll be determined. You’ll be dedicated. You’ll have the ability to drive change and improvements, shaping a high-performing culture. More than anything, you’ll be passionate about making your mark on an organisation that punches well above its weight.

If you think you’d like to lead our team into the next generation of local government then we’d love to hear from you.
